DMX Sentenced to One Year in Prison on Tax Evasion

Who’s pettier than the government? If you’re owed a refund, trust me you’re not seeing that check for at least a month. And if you owe money, well you should know, ya going to jail if they don’t receive their funds.

Well, that’s the fate of Rapper DMX as he faced the judge Wednesday, March 28, in reference to him dodging approximately $2 million in taxes. It is said that he held back the appropriate amounts of gross income he had coming in, had checks deposited in others’ bank accounts, and demanded that payment for appearances were issued without taxes withheld.

In his defense, he admits that he knows he owes the money, but why we gotta pay up and not know where our coins are going?! Cardi B sparked debate recently with her commentary on taxes from an NYC point-of-view, stating “When you donate to a kid from a foreign country they give you updates of what they doing with your money… I need receipts.”

Simmons’ requested to have his song “Slippin” played before the judge accepted his guilty plea, sentencing him to one year in prison, in addition to $2.29 million in compensation to the courts. I guess he was letting us know that like each of his life obstacles, he’ll get back up again. In a 2016 interview with Rickey Smiley of the “Rickey Smiley Morning Show”, he admitted fathering 15 children, so hopes are that he is able to serve an amicable amount of time that pleases the courts, but also allows him to be a part of his kids’ lives.
