The Weeknd talks heartbreak and sadness in new album ‘My Dear Melancholy’

The Weeknd dropped his 6 album EP this Friday titled: ‘My Dear Melancholy’ and it has a lot of people wondering if Selena Gomez is the topic of this album or not.

Melancholy means: Causing or expressing sadness, depression.

The Weeknd obviously dedicated this album to his feelings of pain and heartbreak and the women who caused it.

In his song ‘Call out my name’ The Weeknd repeats over and over that he almost cut out a piece of his self to save someone’s life. Selena Gomez was diagnosed with Lupus in 2015 and recently had a kidney transplant in 2017. Fans are really skeptical that The Weeknd is talking about Selena in this song.

But then in the song ‘Wasted Times’ The Weeknd begins talking about a relationship he wasted time on and he wished he could rekindle a different relationship. I’m pretty sure The Weeknd is saying that his relationship with Selena was a huge waste of time and he wishes he could have his old thing back… which could possibly be his other ex-girlfriend Bella Hadid? The Weeknd also says he really has no business catching feelings out here anyway… So why even care.

The Weeknd definitely let us in on his personal feelings in this album, a lot of us have experienced this kind of heartbreak before. I felt all his pain in this album, The Weeknd is one of many artists that have a talent of making listeners feel their pain through their music.

The Weeknd constantly says that relationships are his enemy and that they need to stay away from him. He feels unappreciated and says that his time has been wasted on relationships. This album was more than a “break up album” he really spoke about personal feelings which make the album even more relatable to people. An artist is always risking a lot by letting the world in on their personal relationships, but I think The Weeknd literally did not care and felt like it was necessary to diss his exes because of all the pain they have caused him. I feel him on soooo many levels!
