Kodak Detained Without Bail

Prolific rapper Kodak Black finds himself in a familiar battle against the law. His lengthy history with the justice system includes racking up four separate arrests in the span of a year from 2015 to 2016, and two more arrests in early 2018.  Kodak was arrested on federal and state weapons charges on May 11, 2019, prohibiting him from performing at popular music festival Rolling Loud. This is his third charge of weapon possession in as many years, leading to less leniency from the court.

The judge on this case, Federico Moreno, deems Kodak to be dangerous and unsafe for the community. This is due, in part, to his extensive criminal history and his seeming inability to listen to the law. The bond which was initially $550,000 with house arrest, a hefty sum in and of itself, has been revoked and Kodak is to be held in prison until his trial. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Having dropped four albums in a two-year span during 2017 and 2018, Black has been one of the most consistent artists when it comes to releasing music. It is uncertain whether or not this case will slow the Florida rapper in this respect. He also faces drug-centered charges in the state of New York.

His trial is expected to take place over the summer. It’s open to speculation, but it’s unsure what the magnitude of the verdict will be. Until then, with no bond, Kodak is confined to a cell for the coming months.
