You may remember the crazy day on social media when it was discovered 21 Savage was technically British. Well, he certainly wants to forget.
21 Savage vs. ICE
21 Savage is publicly calling for the evidence in his 2019 arrest to be suppressed. According to the ‘No Heart’ rapper, police officers had no right to even stop his vehicle that fateful night. In some legal documentation presented by 21’s team, a motion has been officially filed to stop the legal opposition from using any evidence collected after the traffic stop. It’s being claimed 21 Savage was simply minding his business and doing no legal wrongdoing when he was pulled over in February 2019.
During that arrest, Atlanta discovered codeine and a handgun leading to a series of felony drug and weapon possession charges. In his own defense, 21 says “there was no illegality for the weapon to be in the car”, even so, the UK-born artist was quickly detained in Dekalb County jail and is now facing deportation. The complications of this ongoing case have caused great difficulty for 21 to work as an artist. Work permits, backlogged immigration cases, and lawyer back and forths are just a few of the setbacks. With still no court date in sight for 21, his immigration woes unfortunately aren’t behind him.
Luckily, the 29 year old was just recently granted access to work in the US. He started his streak as an official stateside working man with the Rolling Loud and Breakaway festivals recently, but its still a long road before he’s fully a citizen. Of course this hasnt completely put a stop to his life as a recording artist. You can catch 21 on ‘R U That’ by Shenseea or ‘Lets Get It (Remix)’ by Hunxho!
