The 2020 Emmy Nominations hit a record number of black actors who were nominated in various categories.
According to Variety, “102 acting nominees this year across lead, supporting and guest categories for drama, comedy and limited series/TV movie. Thirty-five of those slots went to Black actors.”

Insecure, the HBO hit-show, is in the running for outstanding comedy series. Alongside the show’s nomination, Issa Rae earned a nomination for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series and Yvonne Orji for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series.

In the category of outstanding lead actress in a limited series or movie, Kerry Washington is recognized for her character, Mia Warren, in Little Fires Everywhere. Powerhouse actresses, Regina King (Watchmen) and Octavia Spencer were all acknowledged in this category.
