Lil Nas X teases Kanye-produced new single "Industry Baby"

In a satire of the current legal drama surrounding his Satan shoes, Lil Nas X teases his newest single Industry Baby in a video posted to his twitter. The 22-year-old rapper posted the video, titled “Nike v. Lil Nas X — Satan Sneakers Trial” on Monday (July 19), in which he performed a whole 2-minute sketch carrying out his own fake legal struggle against the legendary shoe brand for his viral “Satan shoes”released in March. The real court action between Nike and MSCHF was actually settled back in April.

The Satan shoes were inspired by Lil Nas X’s music video Montero (Call Me by Your Name). In the music video, Lil Nas X controversially gave Satan a lap dance. Each of the 666 sneakers, which were repurposed pairs of Nike Air Max 97s, allegedly included a drop of human blood.

Lil Nas X plays himself, his lawyer, opposing counsel, the judge, and others in the sketch. The sketch depicts a fake court trial that soon devolves from being about his shoes to being about his sexuality. “Let me rephrase the question: Do your momma know you gay?” his lawyer asks him while on the stand in the video. When he answers “yes,” a juror (also played by Lil Nas X) remarks: “Lock him up, throw away the key.”

Lil Nas X’s teases first studio album, due later this year

At the end, Lil Nas X teases a snippet of Industry Baby which begins with a huge flourish of trumpets. The song features production by Take a Daytrip and Kanye West and will be out on Friday, July 23rd. In addition, the track will also feature Kentucky rapper Jack Harlow. Take A Daytrip have worked with Lil Nas X on many of the rapper’s hits, including Panini, Rodeo, and Holiday.

Last month, Lil Nas X announced his plans to release his first studio album Montero later this year. Lil Nas X kicked off the “Montero” rollout in March with his hit single Montero (Call Me By Your Name)Montero will be Lil Nas X’s follow-up to 2019’s 7 EP.
