2 Chainz discusses Departure form DTP
2 Chainz had a sit down with the host of Drink Champ’s to expound on life and career. While on the show, the artist recounted his amicable split from Ludacris’ label, which paved the way to a successful solo career.
How did Chainz find himself with DTP?
Before 2 Chainz was 2 Chainz, he was a member of a group called Playaz Circle. He signed his first contract as a member of this hip-hop group. From 2002-to 2010, he performed under Ludacris’ label DTP (Disturbing the Peace Label) under the name Tity Boi. He later dropped the name to adopt the moniker 2 Chains.
Learning There is More
However, with time comes growth and greater ambition. The “Ouutstanding” artist gained a greater awareness of his talents and what he could do with them. As most know, it’s not easy to walk out of a contract. Nevertheless, he understood this concept well, so he leveraged his future projects. The performer agreed to pay to dissolve the contract.
“I paid Luda the 100 grand, and I gave him a point on each of the three albums.”
And it worked out for the artist.
Why did Chainz Leave DTP?
Chainz clarifies that his departure had nothing to do with Ludacris and that he kept a working relationship. His vision was much bigger, and he needed his freedom to pursue it. Upon his original announcement ths is what Chainz said,
“I’m actually behind [Ludacris], he’s still my homie. I just took another route as far as running my own company and bossing up.”
And it seems he made a wise decision.
2 Chainz Today
Today, 2 Chainz is reveling in his decision. Since the decision, he has had three successful solo albums. In the words of the artist,
“I just dropped my seventh album. I’m on my eighth album that I’m about to drop now…”
His debts are paid, and he’s now only accountable to himself.
A Fitting Example
The decisions 2 Chainz made are a testament to faith to one’s gift and ability to shape reality. One could reason if Chainz had stayed tied to DTP, he might not be as successful as he is now. Although that is something we will never know, what we do understand is Chainz’s massive success today.
We applaud Chainz’s talent, grit, faith, and business acumen. He is a testament to what will work for you if you grasp your talents and how the industry works.
In his words,
“I have always been a leader, always been confident, and always believed in myself…”
We believe it!
