DJ Akademiks Sounds Off On The Breakfast Club

Many people have opinions on the state of New York radio station Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club.  After Angela Yee announced she will be leaving the show, social media erupted in a frenzy.  The infamous DJ Akademiks put his input into the situation just like everyone else.  He sat down with VladTV for an interview where he spoke about the legendary trio.

DJ Akademiks Sits Down with Vlad

Akademiks felt that the whole thing was just “weird”.  He adds that it seemed as if not everyone was in unison with this decision.  The former host of Everyday Struggle went on to say that the Breakfast Club is like the Migos.  According to AK, without Offset, there is no Migos, they are done.  The same thing with Angela Yee, once she leaves, the Breakfast Club is no more.  You see these three individuals as groups and without one of them, it is hard for people to get a hold of that.

Radio is Done

With The Breakfast Club changing and Angela Yee moving on to a new endeavor, Akademiks feels like radio is not what it used to be.  With social media rising at a rapid pace, new podcasts every day, and shows on TikTok, you don’t necessarily need radio anymore to be relevant.  The host of the Off the Record podcast reflected on a time when you listened to the radio to get the hottest news and the opinions of radio personalities were important.  Now, in 2022, everything has changed, and radio personalities must watch what they say, or their reputation and employers’ reputation will be tarnished.  Radio personalities are not as free as they use to be, and people loved it.

The New Media

DJ Akademiks has been popular for a while now and didn’t need radio promo to get where he is now.  I guess you can say he is a part of the “new media”.  He grew his following through social media and podcasts.  Starting out being a DJ for college parties and his college radio station, Akademiks created his own site to broadcast his talent.  In 2015, he started his YouTube page dedicated to providing breaking news updates regarding the entertainment industry.  His YouTube channel led to a deal with Complex and AK has not looked back since.
