Eminem’s ‘8 Mile’ Soundtrack Certified 6X Platinum As Album Turns 20

There is no doubt that Eminem has a continued career with highly successful albums. Having received its sixth platinum certification, the 8 Mile soundtrack is now one of his most important works. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the classic biopic starring the rap legend is gaining new fans.

On Nov. 17, a few weeks after the movie’s official anniversary, which was celebrated on Oct. 29, 8 Mile achieved the 6x platinum certification, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). A special version of Eminem’s 2002 album was released on Oct. 28 to commemorate the 20-year milestone. All 12 tracks initially featured on the soundtrack are included in the 8 Mile Expanded Edition, in addition to instrumental accompaniments.

However, Mobb Deep’s “Shook Ones” instrumental is not included on the newly reworked album, even though it was beautifully woven into the 8 Mile film, appearing numerous times throughout the visual.

Oscars and Grammys

Even though he was not present to gain acceptance, Em was the first rapper to win Best Original Song at the 2003 Academy Awards because of his famous song “Lose Yourself.” Consequently, the “Not Afraid” rapper earned his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with this song, winning Best Rap Song and Best Male Rap Solo Performance at the 2004 Grammy Awards.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

HBO Max has begun streaming the 2022 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, which premiered Saturday (Nov. 19), providing Eminem fans with an opportunity to keep the celebration going.

During the event, which took place at the Microsoft Theater on November 5, Dr. Dre presented a speech in which he highlighted Em’s contribution to the rap world and welcomed him to the Rock Hall’s Class of 2022.

After this, Dr. Dre and Eminem performed a medley of hits, including “My Name Is” and “Rap God.” Unexpectedly, Eminem invited Aerosmith’s lead singer, Steve Tyler, on stage to sing the Aerosmith sample from one of his popular singles, “Sing For The Moment.”

What Is ‘8 Mile’ About?

Eminem played the lead role in 8 Mile, a semi-biographical account of his early life in Detroit and his entry into the battle rap world.

In addition to Kim Basinger, Brittany Murphy, and Mekhi Phifer, the film has garnered more than $240 million globally. It remains one of the most highly regarded hip-hop movies in history.

Giving Praise

Rapper 50 Cent recently stated that he believes Eminem has not been adequately credited for his contribution to hip-hop. The “In Da Club” rapper explained to Ebro In The Morning in a podcast interview that Eminem helped to expand hip-hop’s popularity by making the genre accessible to a broader audience.

“I think part of Eminem’s legacy is the growth of our culture,” 50 Cent said. “People wouldn’t buy it if they didn’t see where they fit into it.”
