On Wednesday, The Billboard committee announced Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, and Saweetie as the nominees for this year’s top female rap artists for the 2021 BBMA’s. With all three rappers being regulars on the charts this year, the nominations should come as no surprise.
Female Rappers are Dominating the Industry
All three of the women stayed busy during the pandemic. Saweetie released a studio album in 2020 and has already released another album this year. Two of her songs, “Tap In” and “Best Friend (ft. Doja Cat)” hit the top 10 on the Rap/R&B charts this past year.
Megan thee Stallion has also released a studio album in the past year. She had two singles, “Body” and “Savage,” to chart the global Top 100 charts in late 2020. And was also a first-time Grammy winner bringing home a total of three of the coveted awards. (One for Best New Artist and two for her remix single of “Savage” with Beyonce’.)
Meanwhile, Cardi B has not released any albums, but her mega hit single “WAP,” topped the Top 100 charts peaking at #1. We hope to get a new album from her in 2021, but with the rumors of her new beauty line, we may have to wait.
Congrats to all three of these ladies! Much deserved.
