Earlier this month August Alsina confirmed allegations of relations between him and Jada Pinkett Smith. Black Twitter followed these accusations with a surge of criticism warranting Jada to bring her and Will Smith to her show, Red Table Talk, on Friday to address the ‘entanglement.’
“I got into an entanglement with August,” Pinkett Smith stated.
Will proceeded to ask for clarity as Jada then confirmed it was indeed a relationship.
Alsina discussed the intimacy from his point of view in an interview with Angela Yee, saying that he was deeply in love with Jada. He stated that Will knew about the relationship and gave his ‘blessing.’
Jada countered the statement of an affirmation by Will saying she and Will’s marriage had come to a standstill so she did not see the relationship as an affair. She went on to say it was not Will’s decision at that point.
“One thing I want to clean up… about you giving ‘permission’ which is… the only person that can give permission in that circumstance is myself,” she said.
The couple explained that they were “going through a very difficult time,” leading up to Alsina’s relationship. They determined that they were almost certain it was time to call it quits, and Jada used this situation as an opportunity to heal.
She explained that while the situation isn’t one she’s proud to share, the Girls Trip star took it as a learning opportunity.
“I learned so much about myself and was able to really confront a lot of emotional immaturities, emotional insecurity and I was really able to do some really deep healing,” Jada said.
She added that she understood Alsina’s anger about the situation, but she ensured this happened years ago.
Jada said, “For me, this was years ago.”
From this journey, the two were able to find healing, stating they have now found “unconditional love.”
“We ride together; we die together. Bad marriage for life,” Will and Jada stated, reacting to the hardships they’ve faced throughout their 25 years of marriage.
