Lizzo Rocks See-Through Glitter-Dress at Cardi B’s Birthday Party

Death to the haters! Lizzo has never backed down from an outfit, no matter the hate. Her detractors always seem to bring up the same putdown: ‘she should be ashamed’. And yet, here she is. The 33 year-old singer-songwriter, rapper, and flutist is certainly standing her ground this time. This  time, she’s going see-through.

Lizzo the Bold

Attending Cardi B’s 29th birthday party in LA last Monday (September 12), Lizzo decided to leave little for the imagination. The outfit consisted of a glittery, purple see-through dress, pasties, and (presumably) thong underwear. That’s it. Lizzo seemed to be perfectly herself. There was no second-guessing or hesitation from her, instead embracing the cameras.

Despite this, reactions were mixed. There were the usual negative responses. Some called for shame, some expressed disgust at her weight. On the other hand, many heaped praise. Still others erroneously brought up Rhianna and her own see-through dress she debuted at the 2014 Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards. And yet, some thought she went too far, while others thought the outfit just needed work. Regardless, Lizzo has clearly won. She did what she wanted to do, and everyone has found themselves talking about her.

However, her famous confidence is not without it’s times of struggle. Following the release of the music video for “Rumors”, Lizzo reached an emotional impasse. Going on InstagramLive from her bathroom, Lizzo goes into detail about the bullying she faces as…well, herself. To hear her describe it:

“Sometimes I feel like the world just don’t love me back. It’s like it doesn’t matter how much positive energy you put into the world, you’re still going to have people who have something mean to say about you…And for the most part it doesn’t hurt my feelings; I don’t care. I just think when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower. My patience is lower. I’m more sensitive and it gets to me.”

Despite the pain she felt, many rallied behind Lizzo. Many reached out to show her support, and to praise her for being who she is. Among these were Offset, The Game, and Carid B.
