The Lionel D. Pickens Foundation Launches to Empower Far Rockaway Youth and Entrepreneurs
Far Rockaway, NY – May 6, 2025 – As the 10-year anniversary of the passing of beloved rapper, father, and community leader Lionel D. Pickens (Chinx) approaches, his family and loved ones announce the official launch of The Lionel D. Pickens Foundation.
This nonprofit is dedicated to empowering underprivileged youth and revitalizing entrepreneurship in Far Rockaway and the New York City area. Chinx, who collaborated with hip-hop legends like Jadakiss and French Montana, was a star rising from his city, and using his platform to uplift others.
Honoring Chinx’s Legacy Through Community Action
Chinx passed away on May 17, 2015, in Queens, NY. His death sent shockwaves throughout NYC and the hip-hop community. This tragedy allowed his family to turned pain into purpose therefore building a foundation that continues Lionel’s mission.
The foundation is led by those who loved Chinx most, such as his mother Veronica Clinton, his widow Janelli Caceres, his former manager Douglas Ellison, and his longtime publicist Chanel Pettaway.
“Lionel was more than an artist—he was a dreamer and a beacon of hope,” said Veronica Clinton. “This foundation helps others rise up, chase goals, and never give up.”
Key Pillars of The Lionel D. Pickens Foundation
The foundation will focus on programs that reflect Chinx’s commitment to community by establishing initiatives such as:
