2 Chainz announces in a shocking tweet that his upcoming album will be the last trap album of his career. As an absolute staple of the subgenre, this is some pretty big news.

2 Chainz has held it down as one of the most important trap rappers ever to bless the mic. His lyrics constantly walk the line between witty, hard and heartfelt, making for one of the most unique voices and points of view out there. At age 43, he remains one of the strongest giants in one of music’s youngest landscapes.

With constant and consistent output, the trap world has revolved around Chainz for quite some time. His most notable efforts come in the forms of being one of the most reliable feature artists in modern music. Beyond that, his 2017 album, ‘Pretty Girls Like Trap Music‘ is without a question one of the best trap albums out there. It exemplifies Chainz’ range, charisma and ability to elevate the whole Hip-Hop genre.
Due to his age and his personal stance that trap is essentially pop music, its likely that he will no longer feature in trap songs as well. However, if this is his last outing in the genre, or at least last album, we can expect him to go hard and have some fun with this new project, whenever it may be coming out.
Many wonder what direction he’ll go next but he appears to have been leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for us. In 2021, Chainz appeared as an unlikely feature on two different Griselda albums. He spat on “Plug Talk” on Benny the Butcher’s “The Plugs I Met 2” and “200 Pies” on Conway the Machine’s “La Maquina.”

With Griselda breaking barriers in the coke rap world, polishing an intellectual version of the trap life, it’s safe to assume that Chainz will continue in this direction. With his age, experience and ability, 2 Chainz could bridge the gap between the two subgenres.
Looking forward to more news about his final trap outing!
