BET’s very first virtual awards show kicked off to an amazing start as we celebrated the artistry of several different entertainment contributors. In the past 18 years of hosting this ceremony, this is the first time BET has came together to showcase a wide variety of performances outside of their typical arena style. Moreover, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, the show consisted of about 17 performances that were pre-recorded for the nominees, celebrities, and viewers to watch comfortably at home. They showcased a range of creative visuals as well as sparking storylines that ranged from Megan Thee Stallion performing her new hit single, “Girls in the Hood” in a rural, countryside scenery to Lil Wayne’s performance that paid tribute to Basketball legend Kobe Bryant, acknowledged the Black Lives Matter movement, and highlighted the pandemic. Other performances included DaBaby & Roddy Ricch, Summer Walker & Usher, Chuck D, Nas, YG, Black Thought, Rapsody, John Legend, Masego, D Smoke, SiR, Jennifer Hudson, Lonr. , Alicia Keys, Chloe x Halle, Anderson .Paak & Jay Rock, Jonathan McReynolds & Kane Brown, Kierra Sheard & Karen Clark, and Wayne Brady.
