50 Cent Thanks NAACP After “Power Book II: Ghost” Wins Multiple Image Awards

50 cent is more than just a rapper. 50 Cent is an entrepreneur. A businessman who always explored other options besides rap. Since ‘Power’ has come to an end, that has not stopped the rapper from branching off into other things. ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ is the latest project from the rapper, and despite not having receiving mainstream award nominations, it is an incredible show.

Not to mention, the show has recently won three NAACP Image Awards. One for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Mary J Blidge), Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Clifford Smith, known as Method Man of Wu-Tang), and Outstanding Drama Series. 50 Cent took to Instagram to show appreciation for the NAACP and paying his respects. “I’d like to thank the NAACP for recognizing the work of the cast and crew of Ghost: Michael Rainey, Mary J. Blige, Clifford Smith better known as “M-E-T-H-O-D Man.” We are excited that the fans are continuing to support the Power universe.”

Again, this is not the first time 50 Cent has spoken positively on the award show. When ‘Power’ was going through its final season, 50 Cent not only showed gratitude but also blasted other award shows. 50 Cent believed there was a racial element that played a part in the lacking of Emmy nominations. Despite ‘Power’, as the highest ‘Starz’ top-rated series, still no nominations. And I agree.

In light of the ‘Game of Thrones’ racking up 32 nominations at the time and ‘Power’, receiving zero nominations is weird. In comparison, both shows are unique on their own. With one show being predominantly ‘White’ and the other ‘Black’, you have to ask the question. Is race involved? Power is no longer on TV, but Power Book II: Ghost, did not receive any Emmy nominations this year.

In conclusion, this is important why there are award shows like BET and NAACP. We need awards shows that cater to our own, whereas others do not appreciate our work.
