A Kanye West Documentary is Coming to Netflix

A documentary series spanning over two decades of footage and home videos of Kanye West’s life and work has landed at Netflix.

Netflix has reportedly dished out $30 million for a decades-in-the-making documentary on Kanye West. Billboard first reported the news Tuesday. The untitled project is the work of Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Oh,, who worked with Kanye’s early career. The duo directed two of West’s first music videos, “Through the Wire” and the third version of “Jesus Walks.”

The duo has been documenting the billionaire rapper’s life for over 20 years, and it has truly paid off.

A source told Billboard that Netflix acquired their project from Time Studios for over $30 million. Another insider however, informed Variety that this “is not an accurate figure”. The publication offered no further comment regarding if the figure was too high or low.

The 21-year documentary will be presented as a multipart series and is set to become available on Netflix later this year.

The docuseries, which will be produced by the duo’s Creative Control company, will cover West’s rise.  His relationship with his mother, Donda West, his reaction to her death, unseen home video footage,, and clips of him in Chicago in the 1990s will all be included. The docu series will cover his failed 2020 presidential run and the impact of fame in the world. It is unclear whether it will delve into West’s ongoing divorce from Kim Kardashian or not. Another source told Billboard, Kanye take part in the production, but gives consent to Coodie & Chike consent to move forward with the project by granting them access to his life for the past 21 years.
