On August 27th, another female witness gave testimony regarding her assault at the hands of R. Kelly. And interestingly, the incident took place while Kelly was hitched to Aaliyah.
The blows keep coming for R. Kelly.
Kelly is facing federal racketeering charges. The trial has been progressing for a few weeks now. The opening of the trial was hard-hitting, as the prosecution went straight for the jugular, arguing that R. Kelly’s marriage to Aaliyah was a sham. Despite objections from the defensive team, the judge allowed the arguments and evidence.
The testimony of the victim adds more fire to the pyre.
According to usacelebnews.com, the victim’s testimony indicates that the sexual assault at the hands of R. Kelly took place when she was seventeen. She was at a concert at the time of the incident. To make matters worse, given the timeline, he had only been married to Aaliyah a couple of days before the incident. The ink had barely dried on the marriage certificate. As the Daily Beast notes, “Two days after R. Kelly secretly married Aaliyah in 1994, the singer sexually assaulted a 17-year-old in his dressing room after a concert in Miami, the now 43-year-old (victim) testified in Brooklyn Federal Court on Monday.”
None of this is good news for Kelly.
R. Kelly is not only on trial for gross personal misconduct but for running a criminal enterprise, thus the racketeering charge. According to CNN, “At the center of any racketeering case is the ‘enterprise,’ the group entity carrying out the illegal conduct, such as the mafia. in this case, the enterprise is Kelly and his entourage, as well as his managers, bodyguards, drivers, personal assistants, and runners.”
This particular victim testifies of the involvement of some others in the incident. According to the Daily Beast, “After the concert, Addie said, two men approached her and her 19-year-old friend to take her backstage to meet Kelly.” And from there, the account gets graphic.
Judging from the progress of the trial, R. Kelly is in a lot of deep water. But the trial is just beginning, and there is no telling what other revelations will arise in the next coming weeks.
