Amy Winehouse was a rising star in the music industry, despite her drug and alcohol addiction. She won a Grammy in 2008. Audiences knew about her problems and were hoping that she had overcome them.
Winehouse’s final public appearances
Instead, Winehouse was just as bad as before, if not worse. This is evident at her concert in Belgrade on June 18th. According to the New Zealand Harald, half the concert “consisted of an attempt to introduce the members of her bemused band which appeared to be stymied by her inability to remember their names.”
Winehouse was also not sure of her location. She could not sing at all during it. People who had gone to the concert thought that she was drunk again. The audience, understandably, got upset with her. According to Moby, who was also appearing at the festival, she “was lying down on a flight case backstage surrounded by some people.”
Her final public appearance was much better. She was trying to sober up and she looked much healthier than before. Her god-daughter, Dionne Bromfield, did most of the singing for her, but Winehouse did dance. She did not have much energy in her, though.
This improvement did not last long, though. Just three days later, Winehouse had died from alcohol poisoning.
The dress that she had worn on the 18th in Belgrade, the concert that she was intoxicated for, was auctioned off and sold for £180,000. All proceeds went to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which her parents set up to help young people with addiction issues, following her death.
