A$AP Rocky Gives Yammy Awards to Lil Baby, Young Thug, & Lil Durk

Yams Day is a tribute to A$AP Yams (real name Steven Rodriguez), the co-founder of A$AP Mob and the hip-hop genius that influenced A$AP Rocky (@asaprocky)  A$AP Ferg (@asapferg), Playboi Carti (@playboicarti), and many more. After Yams’ accidental overdose in 2015, the Mob created Yams Day.

The annual celebration is always on January 18th, the day of Yams’ passing. This year’s event was held virtually due to the pandemic, and included a hour-long documentary, merch offerings, music previews from A$AP Rocky, and the Yammy Presentation Ceremony. Yams’s mom kicked off the ceremony this year with an introduction in Spanish.

The five award categories were the Big AWGIE Award, Hella Flows Award, The New Level Award, Yamborghini High Award, and The Lady Award.

This Year’s “Winners”

Lil Durk, who is a double Grammy nominee for “Laugh Now, Cry Later” with Drake, won The New Level Award. The nominees included Cardi B, Lil Yachty, Young Thug, and Tyga.

Young Thug won the Hella Flows Award, alongside DaBaby, G Herbo, Gunna, Lil Uzi Vert, MIA Babyface, Polo G, and Sada Baby. Thug has been thriving recently. He received his first Grammy in 2019 for the backing vocals and ad libs for Childish Gambino’s “This Is America”. Thug also debuted at #1 in the U.S. for his latest album So Much Fun.

Lil Baby won the Yamborghini High Award, beating Megan Thee Stallion, NBA YoungBoy, and Griselda. In September 2020, his album My Turn became the first of the year to be certified double platinum by the RIAA.

Lastly, the Big Awgie Award was given to Teezo Touchdown.

Oddly, the winner for The Lady Award has yet to be selected by the Mob. The nominees include Cardi B, City Girls, Flo Milli, Mulatto, Princess Nokia, Rico Nasty, Saweetie, and Young MA. Who do you think deserves to win?
