Azealia Banks is not one to mince her words. But, if she’s got something to say, she will say it. So, this time, the artist had a mouthful to say about Hip-Hop.
Banks Unleashes the Beast
Today Banks took some of her grievances about hip hop to social media. And based on her post, it was evident her feelings ran deep. Assuredly she is not alone in her stance. The artist will find no shortage of people who feel that Hip-hop needs an overhaul. In her words,
“We need an intellectual glow-up f*cking pronto. We cannot be this addicted to/excited about such run-of-the-mill human sh*t.”
She said what she said, and there is no sugar-coating it.
Is Banks Right?
The legitimacy of the entire argument is subjective. However, there is no denying that she makes some solid points worth considering. As she conveyed
“This Hip Hop murder sh*t really has to f*cking stop.”
That is a sentiment many can get behind.
Too heavy a Price
The lives lost to increasing violence in the hip-hop community have become too hefty a price tag to pay for fame and rivalry. We are so much more, and we undoubtedly deserve more as a community. So given that knowledge, no one would disagree that something needs to change.
Not Everyone Will Agree
Many may agree with the ideology behind what Banks is saying. Yet not everyone is going to be down for the context. Admittedly the artist said some pretty raw things that paint hip-hop and its artist with a broad brushstroke. And, Hip hop is not monolithic. Some pretty amazing hip-hop artists are doing some brilliant things in the community. So it is evident not everyone is down for glorifying violence.
Where is Azealia Banks Coming From
Undoubtedly some are wondering where all this stems from. Based on a few of Azealia’s statements, her spill is relative to personal experiences. In an Instagram post, this is what was relayed,
“She also makes accusations that all rappers do is make her life miserable, “suck each other’s f-cking d-cks and kill each other.”
To say that is a bit much is an understatement. But, as it is known, qualifiers such as all indicate conjecture.
Take or leave it: Banks Unabashed.
The masses will either love or hate what Banks had to say. It is their choice. Because we roll with who best reflects our sentiments, all we can say is to keep it real and keep it moving. In this vast world, free speakers and thinkers such as Banks are amazing things of beauty.
