Queen Beyoncé Giselle Knowles Carter broke multiple records with a parade of wins at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. Going into yesterday’s award show, Beyoncé had previously amassed 24 Grammys. With all of those wins, don’t forget that she’s lost 46 times; a fact she acknowledged in a commencement address to the Class of 2020. However; the scales continue to lean in her favor, and the following are the milestones she surpassed last night:
Beyoncé became the most awarded Female Artist with 28 Grammy’s surpassing Bluegrass- Country Singer Alison Krauss
She tied Quincy Jones on his birthday as the living person with the most Grammys
The Carter Family winning streak began early yesterday when it was announced that “Brown Skin Girl” won the Best Music Video Category. This win gave Blue Ivy Carter her first Grammy at just 9 years old, making her the 2nd youngest person to win one. Jay-Z also won an award for his contribution to the “Savage Remix”.
Beyoncé won 3 more awards last night including Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance for her collaboration on the “Savage Remix” with Megan Thee Stallion. The last win of the night was Best R&B Performance for “Black Parade”. Beyoncé stated that she wanted “to reflect the times” as “it’s been such a difficult time”. She said her goal was to encourage and celebrate the Black Queens and Kings that inspired her. Queen, during Women’s History Month and amidst a global pandemic, you’ve accomplished that job. Congratulations!
