On September 20th, Billboard announced the premiere of a fresh new music competition. And as a bonus to the competitors, Charli XCX will be one of the star mentors.

Old Hat but New Tricks

Music competitions are certainly not new. Over the years, the industry has sponsored a litany of competitions with some of the hottest names in hip-hop at the helm, such as The Four, Rap Game, Rhythm and Flow, and Signed. These competitions have turned out some of the illest talents currently in the game, such as Big Latto, winner of the Rap Game, and D Smoke, winner of Rhythm and Flow.

Now, Billboard and Samsung are partnering to find the next diamond in the rough. But this is not your ordinary competition. According to Billboard, each contender will be taken through a series of challenges to prove their musical prowess. Post-challenge, each contestant will receive a ranking on a unique Billboard chart created every week just for this competition. Those who demonstrate superior talent make it to the finale. As a bonus, the finalist will have a unique opportunity to work with super talent Charli XCX.

Charli XCX is a Force Majeure

Charli XCX is an artist in the truest sense of the word. Her skills are vast and she uses them to shape whoever and whatever she encounters. Charli is a performer, however, she is so much more– she is a phenomenal writer and the one behind the spellbinding hook to Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy.”

Not only does she write, but Charli is also a collaborator with artists that span across genres. In fact, some of her collaborations include the hottest talent worldwide, such as Lizzo, Sky Ferreira, and BTS. She uses her unique bag of skills to sculpt (guide) other artists through mentorship. In fact, she is credited as serving as a mentor to Daine, an artist from Melbourne being hoisted as the Emo Icon of the future by NME. Charli XCX also hosts a podcast entitled “The Best Song Ever” with an intriguing roster of guests.

Your Time to Shine

If you have the guts and the talent there is still time to enter. According to Billboard, on September 28th, the competition will begin, starting with a unique Tik Tok challenge. So, if you don’t want to miss your shot, now is the opportunity.
