Billie Eilish, the 19-year-old singer, has come under fire for allegedly mocking various ethnicities in a re-leaked TikTok video. However, the poor recording quality makes it difficult to distinguish exactly what the artist is saying. In an arrangement of clips, Eilish appears to be blabbering nonsense over background music before mouthing – and saying – the word “ch*nk.” The video then cuts to a conversation with her brother where he calls her out for using a “blaccent.”
At the end, she appears to be clearly mocking the Asian community by using a fake, albeit pretty awful, accent. The extremely short video has caused quite the uproar in the online community, sparking some of her current boyfriend’s (Matthew Tyler Vorce) past Facebook posts to resurface and placing her in more hot water, only days after being accused of “queerbaiting” in her latest music video for the single “Lost Cause.”
While many have already fed the singer to the wolves, other fans have been quickly jumping to her defense, claiming that she was only 14 and “a child” in the video. Most are not buying it though.
“i am a child too and i know what racism is?” replied one TikTok user. “racism don’t have an expiration date lmao.”
At this point it is probably best for Eilish to just address the problem.
