Caitlyn Jenner Calls Trans Children in Sports an Issue of “Fairness”

Caitlyn Jenner plans to run for Governor of California in the state’s expected recall election.

Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner, a transgender woman, announced her plan to challenge California Governor Gavin Newsom in his expected recall election. In a recent interview with TMZ, the reality TV star gave her opinion on recent laws involving transgender women. She claimed that transgender children in sports “…just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools.” She further clarified by responding to a tweet from TMZ following the incident.

Jenner seems to be targeting transgender girls specifically, despite being trans herself. She calls out the need to protect girls’ sports in school. Jenner thinks trans girls put others at a disadvantage by competing on the same sports teams. Jenner’s comments put her at further odds with the trans community, who feel marginalized by these laws.

Jenner supported former President Trump back in 2016, who shared similar views.

This question toward Jenner came from a slew of bans in the past year from multiple states. Alabama, South Dakota, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and West Virginia have all placed bans on trans women and children competing in sports with other women.

The transgender community already has issues with Jenner following her support of Donald Trump. The former POTUS has previously made transphobic statements and passed laws that placed further harm on the trans community. Many people found Jenner’s comments and recent actions hypocritical. It already looks like both Democrats and Republicans are against Jenner in political office, and her comments in the TMZ interview lost any remaining support from the LGBT+ community.

However with that said, this recent controversy is not a reason to mis-gender or deadname Caitlyn Jenner. Like everyone else, she deserves to have her identity respected.
