The record-holding female rapper may finally have her past catch up with her. Just this morning, Cardi B pleaded not guilty to to a growing list of charges, including assault. Although she currently enjoys a dominant position in the rap industry and recently welcomed a baby boy into the world, Cardi could face up to four years in prison.
Cardi B’s Bar Room Brawl
The incident occurred over three years ago. On August 29th, 2018 a fight erupted inside a strip club called “Angels,” located in Flushing. Initially, it was reported that Cardi B and some associates “threw bottles” at two of the female bartenders. At first, Cardi was only charged with three counts of misdemeanor, one for actually striking a bartender and two more for reckless endangerment. Rapidly, the story grew.
As the story developed, the charges continued to accumulate. “Some associates” grew to five, and then to nine. The police discovered that this wasn’t even the first time that Cardi had “launched an assault” on Angels. According to the bartenders, two weeks prior, on August 15th, Cardi B and five others assaulted a bartender named Jade. Jade was also assaulted during the incident on August 29th, and it soon became clear why.
The bartender accused Cardi of having threatened her for months. Allegedly, Cardi had believed that the bartenders were having an affair with her husband, Offset. In response, she had orchestrated attacks, personally commanding her associates to throw bottles and chairs at them.
The Charges Against Cardi
Currently, Cardi is facing a whopping 12 charges in the courtroom, a rather dramatic uptick from the previous three. This list includes conspiracy, harassment, criminal solicitation, reckless endangerment, and assault. In addition, Cardi faces two felony charges of “attempted assault with the intent to cause serious physical injury,” which carry harsher penalties. This brings the grand total number of charges up to 14.
Currently, and throughout the entire legal process, Cardi B has maintained her complete innocence. Just this morning, she refused a plea deal where she would admit to third-degree assault, but would receive a conditional discharge, which would have allowed her to walk free so long as no more crimes are committed. Cardi rejected this offer in favor of attempting to prove her complete innocence. If found guilty now, Cardi would face up to four years in prison which, to say the least, would seriously impact her dominance in the rap industry.
