Cardi B is in the midst of a vicious legal battle involving gossip YouTuber Tasha K. The rapper took the stand yesterday in front of a federal jury, saying she felt “extremely suicidal”.

Cardi gets candid

According to TMZ reports early Thursday morning (Jan.13), the ‘WAP’ artist had an emotional testimony in response to claims of contracting HSV, prostitution, and abusing drugs made by Tasha K. Tasha K, also known as Latasha Kebe, is a prolific gossip YouTuber with over a million subscribers and averaging tens of thousands of views per video.  This isn’t the first time Tasha’s words have landed her in some legal trouble. Back in Dec 2019, the parents of R. Kelly victim Joycelyn Savage fired back at Kebe after allegations of them “giving” their daughter away to the RnB singer. The two may have dropped their defamation case but the gossip blogger must still face the music.

On the fourth day of the trial, the Bronx artist confessed she felt “defeated and depressed” upon seeing several blog posts circulating concerning her sexual health and sobriety. Cardi first took legal action against the gossip blogger back in April 2019. The $75,000 defamation of character lawsuit was concerning dozens of YouTube videos containing baseless rumors about Cardi and her daughter Kulture. One video published by Kebe in April 2018 alleged Kulture was suffering from a severe learning disability.

Will this change the gossip scene?

Tasha K has reported extensively on Cardi in particular, most recently stating the rapper is gang affiliated and had Blood gang members tracking down her suburban Atlanta home. The controversial YouTuber filed a $3 million countersuit against Cardi, using the alleged intimidation to claim the rapper caused her to flee her residence and fear for her safety. In July, this case was thrown out by the judge due to insufficient evidence. This left Tasha K to deal with the initial suit.

Cardi took the opportunity to open up on how the rumors and subsequent trial have impacted her mental health, “…I didn’t want to sleep with my husband.” she said.

“I felt like only a demon could do that s**t.”

She reportedly broke down in tears, continuing to explain how the rumors made her feel like taking her own life.

This impactful testimony came with an equally stunning confession by Tasha K. According to Law360, Kebe admitted to the jury lies were published about Cardi in order to garner money and attention to her business, YouTube channel, and blog. This follows an expensive and lengthy battle in court and months of doubling down on her initial claims.

The trial and emotional fallout brings up the important question of how far is too far when reporting celebrity gossip. While Cardi is no stranger to publicly fighting for her respect, many celebrities despite how malicious a rumor may be, avoid confrontation as to not bring more attention to it. This, combined with the evolution of social media and the internet, has created an environment for false rumors to thrive.

With Cardi’s honest testimony and Tasha K’s confession, this trial may set a new precedent for celebs and bloggers alike.

The trial will commence Jan. 18.
