You either win the battle or win the war; if you’re lucky you can win both. In celebrity news, Melissa Harris-Perry won the battle over covering Beyonce’s new hit song, Formation but lost the war against MSNBC.
On Super Bowl Sunday, Beyonce’ performed her new hit single , Formation which instantly became an issue in national conversation. In response, Harris-Perry who was the former host for a talk show surrounding race, gender and politics on MSNBC preferred to cover Formation but the company favored the coverage of politics.
“I will not be used as a tool for their purposes,” Harris-Perry, 42, noted to her staff and fans. “I am not a token, mammy, or little brown bobble head. I am not owned by (NBC News chairman Andrew) Lack, (MSNBC President Phil) Griffin or MSNBC. I love our show. I want it back.”

Harris-Perry perceived that her show was being taken away from her and she was only there for racial purposes.
“Here is the reality: Our show was taken – without comment or discussion or notice – in the midst of an election season,” she also added in her letter.
Her MSNBC contract expired in October but she will not be returning to her show before then.

In response to her letter, MSNBC said they were surprised, confused and also disappointed with former host.
A spokesperson went ahead to say, “in this exciting and unpredictable presidential primary season, many of our daytime programs have been temporarily suspended by breaking political coverage.” Unfortunately for Harris-Perry her show was one of them.
Harris-Perry spoke out to the public on Friday and said MSNBC had “silenced” her in attempt to get higher ratings out of with election approaching.
In February she noticed the channel marginalization of her show. In her letter she stated that there was a “dramatic change” in the “editorial tone and racial composition of MSNBC’s on-air coverage.”
Harris-Perry worked on MSNBC for four years establishing an audience, developing a brand and gaining the trust of the public; in return MSNBC put her and her show on mute.
