With Kayne’s third listening party over and done, critics have a lot to say, and that includes Breakfast Club Cohost, Charlemagne Da God. In a Breakfast Club convo on the third listening party of DONDA, Charlamagne shared a few thoughts of his own. And not all those thoughts were positive.
Tha God On Ye
Angela Yee broke down a little of what happened at Kayne’s listening party. Charlamagne let it be known that Kanye was a bit over the top. In fact, Charlamagne compared Kanye to circus showman P.T. Barnum.
“… We know Kayne P.T. Barnum out here, will do anything to get people talking. “
While that may to some seem entirely negative, it may not be the case. Perhaps it is simply an earnest observation. There is no proof that Charlamagne is calling Kanye a clown. PT. Barnum was one of the greatest entertainers of all time. This comparison, rather, points out Kayne’s showmanship and his ability to captivate and control a crowd.
That’s not all Charlemagne had to say. At about two minutes into the show, he says,
“Man, Kayne doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing keeping people talking about his album….”
And that seems like an honest observation.
Charlamagne on DONDA
Charlemagne also shared a few of his insights on DONDA. According to a source, he just wasn’t super impressed. From HypeBeast:
“Upon first listen, it was lackluster for me.”
And that had a lot to do with the length of the album. Charlamagne thought the album was just too long.
“…it could be a great album. But 28 songs with all the part twos, an hour and 48 minutes, it’s too long, and it drags to me.”
While not exactly clapping in the fan section, Charlamagne isn’t exactly booing either. As contributing writer Joyce Li notes, he [Charlamagne] liked some of the tracks. But basically, DONDA is just not his cup of tea.
Given the theatrics and build-up, it’s not surprising that Kayne has some critics and some superfans. But for those who are fans, according to Yahoo entertainment, DONDA has finally been released to streaming platforms. So now it’s up to you to be the judge.
