Yes Yes Y’all Common Wins an Emmy

Chicago native Common snagged an Emmy for outstanding original music and lyrics for the song Letter to the Free from the Netflix documentary 13th, which peels back the controversial layers of race and incarceration in America.

Common’s Instagram: “I met a new woman today and she sat on my lap. I think she’s a keeper.”

So what’s next for the rapper-turned-actor? Word on the street he has his sights on Broadway. “I wanted to go to Broadway before I won any awards,” he explained to Deadline.com. “I would love to do theater.”

Now if Common makes his way to the theater and gets nominated for a Tony Award and wins he would officially complete the EGOT. What’s an EGOT? It’s an honor for people who have at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony.

Common already has a handful of Grammy Awards, he earned his first Grammy in 2003 for Best R&B Song for “Love of My Life” with Erykah Badu.

Then in 2008, he picked up a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group, for “Southside” featuring Kanye West.

By 2015 he added an Oscar to his trophy case for Best Original Song, for his song Glory  from the 2014 film Selma, where he also co-started as the Civil Rights leader James Bevel.

An EGOT “would be a blessing,” he said after accepting his Emmy Award. “But I start with quality and where I can have an impact.”

I would love to see a well-choreographed rendition of “I used to Love Her” on Broadway. Just sayin’.
