After receiving negative backlash from the media and fans, Philly Rapper Lil Uzi Vert has responded to everyone regarding his “controversial” $2,400 shirt. Well, besides the fact that he’s clearly wearing a mortgage on his chest it seems as though the issue is more behind the femininity of the fashion piece.
Along with Black Twitter, many celebrities, such as Tyrese, 50 Cent, Cory Hardict, Tami Roman and Waka Flocka Flame.
Joined the twitter meme wave by sharing their thoughts and chimed into the controversy surrounding the flamboyant fashion piece.
Atlanta Rapper Waka Flocka Flame, went on to say more about the rapper, including that he doesn’t consider him a Hip Hop artist but more like Punk-Rock.
Let’s be honest. Is this shirt really considered “too” feminine or is it because Lil Uzi Vert was photographed accessorizing it with a “male hand bag” aka purse?
However, as if one “controversial” shirt was not enough. Lil Uzi Vert continued with his “eccentric” fashion style, on the red carpet when he attended the Billboard Awards on May 21, 2017.
So, when Entertainment Reporter Sway Calloway asked, “What is your response to that? People think it’s feminine.”
“You know what it is? They’ve never felt these fabrics before,” replied Uzi about the Valentino shirt he wore to the Billboard Music Awards show.
We can agree that the Hip Hop culture is definitely evolving into a new direction but we’re not sure if the public is ready for this type of change.
What do you think about Lil Uzi’s choice of fashion? Do you think it’s sending the wrong message to our youth?
Or is just another artist expressing himself through fashion and it just doesn’t align with the typical Hip Hop trend we’re used to?
Do you think Lil Uzi needs to continue responding to criticism and defending his style of fashion?
