Clarence Avant’s Wife Jacqueline Shot And Killed During Home Invasion

Legendary music executive Clarence Avant was the victim of a home invasion early Wednesday morning. Tragically, during the break-in, perpetrators shot and killed his 81-year-old wife, Jacqueline Avant. After hearing shots, a neighbor reportedly called police to Trousdale Estates, outside Beverly Hills.

According to TMZ,  a family source shared that robbers entered the home and fired shots, striking Jackie. At the time, Clarence was reportedly in the home as well. Sources have not yet confirmed whether Clarence himself suffered injuries.

Famously known as the “Godfather of Black Music” Clarence has deep roots in the entertainment industry, receiving the honor of induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame just this October. His label, Avante Garde Broadcasting, was one of the first Black-owned radio stations in the entire country. Throughout his career he worked with every artist in the book, eventually becoming chairman of Motown Records. “He puts people together,” the iconic Bill Withers once said.
