Jonathan Mattingly, one of the officers responsible for murdering Breonna Taylor, is parting ways with the publisher of a tell-all book he wrote about the incident. The murder of Breonna Taylor took place when police raided her home on March 13, 2020.
The Announcement
In an American Thinker blog post titled, “The Breonna Taylor Story the Left Doesn’t Want You to Hear,” Mattingly opined how his life has changed and how he wants to “set the record straight” about the facts of that night. So does Breonna Taylor’s family. The problem is that the facts that may come to light are not necessarily going to be in Mattingly’s favor.
He says after he spent “the last year and a half watching the media, celebrities, sports figures, attorneys, and politicians spread blatant lies about the situation without any accountability, I know I must do whatever I can to make sure the true story is told.” For him, that means publishing it all in a book.
He Believes There is Another ‘Truth’
Earlier this year, Post Hill Press announced that it was going to publish Mattingly’s tell-all book. He saw this as an opportunity to share his version of the events that took place on March 13, 2020. He says, “My side of the story is completely different from what you’ve heard from the media. They want you to believe that I and my fellow officers are evil racists who barged into that apartment and killed Breonna while she slept.”
Mattingly continues, “This couldn’t be farther from the truth, and I learned pretty quickly that the media and our local government officials want to make sure you never learn the truth about what happened that night.”
The Distributor Reacts Swiftly to Public Outcry
The announcement of the book was met with swift and immediate scorn across social media, forcing the distributor Simon & Schuster to pull out of the deal -thus leaving Post Hill Press, a small publisher, to distribute the book using its own resources. That was in spring of this year. It seems now, as summer draws to a close, Post Hill Press has had a change of heart.
Publisher Parts Ways
Mattingly wrote in his post that he is “exploring other options” for publishing his book. In an email to the publication LEO, Post Hill Press confirmed that it had parted ways with Mattingly.
Post Hill Press is a publisher of conservative, Christian books, however they also do publish books on history, pop culture, self-help, business and current events. One of their other clients is Republican Congressman Matt Gaetz.
Sgt. Mattingly retired from the Louisville Police Department in June. He was not charged in Breonna Taylor’s murder.
