Dame Dash sat down to an interview with Shannon Sharpe, the host of Club Shay Shay. Amid him expounding on various elements of his life, he took some time to reflect on Kanye West’s success. As earnestly and honestly as Dash could, he explained how shocked he was by West’s success. At 40.31 second mark of the video, Dame proclaims
“No, I never expected that in a billion years … I didn’t expect it!”
And that is as honest as one can get.
Why Didn’t Dame Dash see Mega Success in Ye?
There are not many who can foretell the future. Honestly, all one must go on is what is seen at the time. Dame saw more in others he was surrounded with than in Ye. This is not to say Dame Dash did not see Ye’s talent. Without a doubt, Dame recognized West had something. According to a source, his belief in Ye was instrumental in West’s success. As the publication notes,
Dame helped bring the Donda 2 rapper over to Roc-a-Fella early in his career.
So Why Not Expect More from West?
Polish and shine take time. One’s true potential is not always fully evident at first. However, Dash does admit there was one factor Ye had others didn’t have. He believes this was contributory to West’s success,
“But the reason why it was him is because he had the most respect for me. He’s the only one that listened completely. And still does – on certain levels.”
West Proves Hard Work Changes Perception
Despite what he once felt, Dame Dash has overwhelming respect for Ye. He is so impressed by West’s successes he correlates him to music and sports legends Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan. Not only does he boost Ye’s value, but he also explains how Ye’s success in fashion has expanded his legendary status. Undoubtedly, Dash is proud.
Dash’s interview demonstrates a fantastic point. Not everyone is going to see your potential immediately. So, don’t count yourself out. As Ye has proved to Dash, perceptions are merely notions. If you got it in you, all you need to do is prove it.
