Jay-Z’s shout-out to Damon Dash after his induction to the Hall of Fme On October 30 appears to be just the white flag needed to form a truce.
According to sources Jay-Z had quite a bit to say about Dame Dash in his hall of fame induction speech. In speaking of Dash Jay-Z is cited as saying,
“I know we don’t see eye to eye, but I can never erase your accomplishments, and I appreciate you and thank you for that.”
“It was beautiful, I’m glad he said it for the culture. We need to squash everything. So hopefully if that was an extended [olive branch], I’ll spin one back.”
Jay-Z and Damon Dash’s Feud
The tension between Dash and Jay-Z has been high for some time now.
The two started one of the biggest hip-hop entities, Roc-a-Fella, records in 1995. Things did not stay civil. According to blackinfotoday.com things began to escalate with the dissolution of the brand. The relationship has been strenuous since.
Heat rises between Jay-Z and Damon Dash
Over the summer the tension reached a fever pitch. Jay-Z pursued a lawsuit against Damon Dash. Media outlets were in a frenzy over Jay-Z’s ire at Dash’s supposed move to auction “Reasonable Doubt.” Jay-Z’s legal teams’ response was clear cut and dry.
“The bottom line is simple: Dash can’t sell what he doesn’t own. By attempting such a sale, Dash has converted a corporate asset and has breached his fiduciary duties.”
After this clash, all eyes were on the pair. It was hard not to grab some popcorn just to see how the drama would unfold.
Clearing the air
Jay-Z’s latest gesture seems to be the salve to heal old wounds. Dash was quick to respond in kind to the show of appreciation.
“Whether we cool or not, [JAY-Z] getting in the Hall of Fame is major. So, congratulations to us, congratulations to him and thank you [to him] for keep working so hard to where he got to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”
Let’s hope the sentiment from both sides sticks.
