DDG shows his cocky side with a controversial take on Tupac and Biggie Small‘s relevancy. Do you agree? Or was it too far?
DDG sparks old school vs. new school
It’s widely known that debates over rappers of old and new have been going on for years. With the public’s tastes changing so drastically over time, it’s inevitable that some lines will be drawn in the sand. Furthermore, YouTuber turned rapper DDG is an ambitious 24-year-old going hard for the new-gen.
“Today’s rappers are 10x better than the rappers back in the today.. Respectfully.” He tweeted.
The blunt announcement garnered a mostly negative reaction, with many pointing out 90’s legends like Tupac, Nas, and Dr. Dre.
Picking your battles poorly
One particular Twitter user used Tupac and Biggie Smalls as a rebuttal. In a certainly interesting turn, DDG put the two legends on blast. “On some real sh*t.. when the last time u listened to either in the car.. BE TRUTHFUL.”
In addition, it’s worth noting that while DDG’s monthly Spotify listeners are sitting at 5.7 million, Tupac and Biggie have a combined 35.2 million. Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, it’s a bit unusual for the Pontiac rapper to come out with this harsh take out of the blue. Clearly, social media agreed as the backlash was quick and heavy. That’s likely why DDG followed up with a final tweet explaining his stance.
“I respect the older generation of hip-hop, but this generation creativity on another level fr. Hip Hop ain’t never been the number 1 genre until NOW.”
Although not many are co-signing this, it has to be said the ‘Elon Musk’ rapper is sticking to his guns. In addition to the naysayers, some fans partially agreed with DDG’s declaration. Do you agree that the new guys have overcome the past? Or will the originals always reign supreme? The debate is still raging on.
