Want to see to a legendary battle? In the mood for a duel between two legendary rap groups? You just might get it with a Verzuz battle between Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, DJ Paul confirmed yesterday.
The founder of Three 6 Mafia posted a photo to Instagram showing himself in a virtual meeting with some big names. Among them were Verzuz co-founder, Swizz Beats, VP of Entertain Strategy at Triller, Grady Spivey, and of course, original Bone Thugs-N-Harmony member, Krayzie Bone. The post came with the caption, “What are we discussing?”
DJ Paul and Krayzie Bone: A Battle, Interrupted
According to DJ Paul and Krayzie Bone, the two groups were set to a showdown in April of 2020. But something happened to derail the event. To hear DJ Paul tell it, Krayzie had second thoughts and backed his group down. Paul alleges in a November 2020 interview that someone at Verzuz got to Krayzie and talked him out of the battle:
“I was talking to [Verzuz] and they kept telling me they was gonna do it, man,” Paul said. “Then, they just ended up changin’ they mind. It’s like, I don’t know why they came in just to stop our thing and then didn’t wanna do it. But whatever, I still got love for Swizz [Beatz] and Timbaland. Love you guys to death.”
On the other side, Krayzie claims that his backing was out was due to another reason: the state of the world. Specifically, he tweeted that his cancelation was because of “the temperature of what was going on in the world.” DJ Paul confirms this:
“And then next thing I know, he tweeted and said he didn’t wanna do it at all because of the temperature of what was going on in the world. Verzuz kept moving on and everything else kept going. I was like, ‘Alright, I kind saw this coming and I tried to tell you, but whatever.”
A showdown at last?
Unfortunately, no date has been presented for the meeting of legends. In fact, DJ Paul appears to be teasing at this point. With no word from Krayzie and only a post from Paul, fans will just have to wait a while longer.
