DJ Unk, “Walk It Out” Rapper Passes Away

Anthony Leonard Platt, widely known as DJ Unk, the Atlanta rapper celebrated for his mid-2000s hits “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 43. His wife, Sherkita Long-Platt, confirmed that he died in his sleep from a heart attack, refuting rumors of substance abuse by stating that her husband did not use drugs.
Born on November 28, 1982, in Atlanta, Georgia, DJ Unk began his music career in 1998 as a DJ and later joined the Southern Style DJs. In 2000, he was signed to Big Oomp Records, where he released his debut album, “Beat’n Down Yo Block!” in 2006. The album featured the hit singles “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” both of which achieved significant chart success. His follow-up album, “2econd Season,” was released in 2008.
In 2009, DJ Unk suffered a heart attack, which he attributed to his lifestyle during nonstop touring. Following this health scare, he made efforts to change his lifestyle.
His passing has been met with an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and fans. Big Oomp Records honored him as a significant figure in Atlanta’s music scene. A candlelight vigil was held in his Atlanta neighborhood to commemorate his life and legacy.
DJ Unk’s contributions to the hip-hop industry, particularly his influence on the Atlanta music scene, will be remembered and continue to inspire future artists and fans.
