It’s been a long time since we heard something new from Ruff Ryder frontman D.M.X. Since his release from prison back in early 2019, it’s been somewhat of an on-on going appreciation tour. Fans gave X his flowers when he faced off against the godfather Snoop Dogg in an iconic Verzuz battle last summer. If you remember, producer Swizz Beatz confirmed that a ninth studio album from D.M.X. was on the way. After that, not much else has surfaced regarding the upcoming project until now.
During a recent sitdown with N.O.R.E. on Drink Champs’s upcoming episode, D.M.X. revealed some of the album’s collaborators. As a frequent guest and friend to the show, X has given several gems and other inside knowledge regarding his career. So fans will be delighted to see how he will bridge the gap between old and new rappers. “I got Griselda boys. Pop Smoke, that’s what type of new I’m doing.” D.M.X. said.
Pleasantly surprised, host N.O.R.E. asked if he had a chance to meet young New York rapper Pop Smoke before his untimely death. He, unfortunately, said no, but was still grateful to have his voice available to him. N.O.R.E. pointed out the cues and inspiration Pop took from him and 50 Cent. “Pop Smoke is you and 50 Cent’s baby,” he joked. “If you and 50 Cent had a baby, that would be Pop Smoke.” This led to a hilarious clarification by D.M.X., adamantly expressing that he wouldn’t be the one giving birth.
