Attorney General Merrick Garland spoke at a press conference. He then revealed the charges each officer faced.
Also, none of the charges connect the officers directly to Breonna Taylor’s death.
The Detail of The DOJ Charges
The DOJ charged Detective Hankison with deprivation of civil rights for shooting 10 shots through Taylor’s apartment’s window and glass door.
The DOJ charged Sgt. Meany, Detective Jaynes, and officer Goodlett with conspiracy. Each of them had a role in creating and submitting a false affidavit used to get a search warrant for Taylor’s apartment. DOJ also charged the three officers with attempting to cover up the falsifying of information.
Goodlett and Jaynes met each other in a garage in May 2020. During this meeting, they decided to lie to the DOJ. Goodlett and Jaynes met two months after Taylor was killed in her home.
Jaynes wrote in the false affidavit that Breonna Taylor’s boyfriend was receiving “suspicious packages” at her home. The postal inspector says that this information was incorrect.

Facing Other Charges
The Kentucky Attorney General’s Office charged Hankison with wanton endangerment. The Kentucky AG office then acquitted Hankison of these charges.
Goodlett is facing allegations of throwing drinks at citizens from her police vehicle.
A DOJ Investigation Of The Louisville Police Department
The DOJ also investigates the Louisville Metro Police Department. The investigation is looking to see if the Louisville police department is violating the rights of its citizens. This investigation is also separate from the charges against Jaynes, Goodlett, Meany, and Hankinson.
