Doja Cat has had an extremely tough week. Now that the smoke is all clear, she’s taking some things back and making amends.
Doja Cat against the firing squad
The Planet Her rapper got in a nasty online battle with fans after canceling a show in Paraguay. Last week, (Mar. 25) Doja Cat called off a concert due to heavy rain. The small South American country is known for its abundant rainfall year-round. Now, it’s also known for a particularly feisty bracket of Doja’s fanbase.
Doja arrived in Asunción, Paraguay last week to perform at the annual Asuncionico Festival. Following the swift cancellation of her set, the ‘Need To Know’ artist tweeted out “BRAZIL” accompanied by flag emojis.

A Paraguayan fan angrily replied to the tweet, calling Doja out for her lack of presence.
“Not a single photo being in Paraguay, not a single tweet, not a single instagram story!!!! You made us empty!!”
Another fan then added on to the sentiment, posting a photo of the artist captioned “public enemy #1”. Instead of conceding to the naysayers, she quickly made herself clear. “I’m not sorry” Doja quipped.

From there the floodgates opened to thousands of hate messages. For hours the 26 year old was on the receiving end of harsh backlash, mainly from disappointed Paraguayan music lovers. Specifically, issue was taken with the concert being called off, and fans being left in the rain waiting to see the pop star outside her hotel.
Quitting with no two weeks notice
In a set of now deleted tweets, Doja expressed her annoyance with the music industry as a whole. One particularly defeated tweet echoes some feelings the West Coast star has explained before about being overwhelmed by responsibility and workload.
“I can’t wait to f— disappear and I don’t need you to believe in me anymore. Everything is dead to me, music is dead, and i’m a f— fool for ever thinking I was made for this this is a f— nightmare unfollow me.” She typed.
To top it all off Doja changed her bio name to “I quit”.
Kiss and make up
Doja Cat returned to Twitter this past weekend (Mar.26) to apologize and express gratitude to her fans. “I can travel, I can eat good food, I can see new people, I can smile, I can make memories that I dreamed of having, I can laugh, I can support my family and my friends, I can learn about the world, and I can give back to everyone because of you, I do owe people shit. I owe a lot.” She explained. By the same token, the hitmaker gave some well-deserved credit to herself.
“I owe myself a lot too. I owe myself the chance to open up and be good to people.”
She tweeted.
“I owe myself the death of my fears that don’t allow me to expand my heart. I didn’t come to another country to do something i can do everywhere else. that would be pointless in a way.”
In one of the deleted tweets, Doja explicitly said she’s quitting music and told her fans to unfollow. It’s a big relief to see the singer/rapper pull it together and stay resilient in the face of fan entitlement.
