Drake just hit the jackpot, a serious chunk of which he donated to The LeBron James Family Foundation. The rapper is donating 1 million in the popular cryptocurrency, Bitcoin. The Toronto-born rapper uses gambling site Stake, where he plays roulette.
Earlier this year, Drake, username “DeepPockets6,” announced a partnership with Stake. The news came after the “God’s Plan” rapper allegedly spent 1 billion dollars on gambling sites since last December. In a video posted to Instagram, the rapper explained, “Anytime I get blessed like that, I always think it’s good karma that needs to be transferred.” He continued, “I play for fun and I play in hopes that I can spread love always.” Both LeBron and Drake also surprised a family in need with a $100,000 gift. The pair appeared at the location where Drizzy previously filmed the video for his 2011 hit “Headlines.” They picked a student-athlete named Michael, then gave the child’s mom stacks of cash.
The rapper furthermore promised LeBron that he and “Eddie from Stake,” would donate another million bitcoins to the basketball player’s I Promise School. James replied, “Wow, wow, wow. I appreciate it. My kids are going to go crazy for that.” The I Promise School is an elementary school in Akron, OH focusing on at-risk youth and funded by The LeBron James Family Foundation.
Drake’s History Of Giving Back
This isn’t Drake’s first charitable endeavor. Over the last 12 years, the rapper has given millions of dollars away to multiple organizations. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, he donated $100,000 to help mothers and caregivers struggling financially. Several months ago, Drake co-headlined the “Free Larry Hoover” Benefit with Kanye West. The duo buried the hatchet and collaborated on the event to help raise money to free prisoner Larry Hoover. From disaster relief, to education, the 35-year-old continues to quietly show off his humanitarian side.
