Electrifying Energy with Power Foods
Finding it tough to fight fatigue? Who has time for that? Especially in the summer! Banish sleepy eyes for good with these foods that are sure to keep you alert for all that fun in the sun!
1. Honey
Cut out sugar with nature’s natural pick-me-up! Honey can give the sweetness that we all crave throughout the day without the “crash” sugar gives. It’s also much lower in calories and much easier on your waistline. Pour it over yogurt or oatmeal or stir it into iced tea for an added sweet treat.
2. Apples
High in fiber and filled with glucose, apples are the perfect snack for long-lasting energy. Fiber digests slowly allowing for the energy to stay with you longer and glucose is easily metabolized by your body leaving you bright eyed all day! Pair apples with dairy such as cheese, milk or yogurt for a filling snack.
3. Spinach
Really, any food rich in iron is the gateway to success for producing energy! Spinach can be incorporated into all meals to keep alert all day. Blend it into a fruit smoothie for breakfast or switch lettuce for spinach in your salad!
4. Almonds
Super high in Vitamin B, almonds produce energy almost instantly! Research shows that people with low Vitamin B levels are prone to fatigue, irritability and poor concentration. Keep your focus by snacking on almonds during the day.
5. Caffeine
Of course, we all know the effects of caffeine. It can keep you awake for hours on end! Whether you drink it down in coffee and energy drinks or eat it in chocolate, caffeine can boost energy quickly. However, large amounts of caffeine can leave that “crash” feeling or can lead to addiction. So, only turn to caffeine in dire situations and be sure to ingest in moderation!
