Rap legends Eminem and Snoop Dogg have dropped a surprise collaboration for fans. The two iconic rappers recently dropped a single and accompanying music video titled “From The D 2 The LBC. The title of the song references the hometown of the pair, Eminem’s native Detroit and Snoop Dogg’s Long Beach. The rappers are known for music that makes numerous references to their cities.
Shared Roots
The two artists share more in common than a mutual love of their hometowns. These rappers have quite a past that goes back decades. Both artists owe much of their early success to legendary rapper and producer Dr. Dre. Dre proved instrumental in the early discovery and promotion of the duo. Dre collaborated with both of them on their early albums, most notably “Doggystyle” by Snoop Dogg and “The Slim Shady LP” by Eminem. The pair worked on other songs together in the past. With such a prominent shared pedigree between the two it should not come as a shock that the two would work together. Especially given Snoop’s proclivity towards collaboration with other artists. However, recent history between the two led many fans to question if a collaboration would happen again.
A Brief Beef
In 2020 Snoop Dogg was asked to give a list of his top ten rappers of all time. He did, which consisted entirely of older rappers. Snoop then claimed that Eminem’s absence from the rankings resulted from his belief that Eminem owed much of his success to Dr. Dre. Eminem responded with a line on his song “Zeus”. He then explained his issue was due to the dismissive tone he felt Snoop used about him. After that the beef went silent, until now where it appears to squashed.
Looking Forward
Now it appears that the two have moved on and are focusing on new endeavors. New music from the two is a treat considering they are some of the few rappers from their era that are still active and making new music. Following this it would be great to hear more songs from two 90s greats still healthy in a competitive genre. If no new music comes simply enjoy the Eminem and Snoop Dogg collaboration we have.
