Eminem’s NFL Performance

The excitement surrounding Eminem’s performance the NFL’s Super Bowl LVI Pepsi Halftime Show was just as high as the excitement for the football game itself.

Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, 50 Cent, Kendrick Lamar, and Eminem came together for an epic performance that left the world buzzing. Hip-hop fans enjoyed the show, and they are talking about it still. It’s unclear when the hype will simmer back down. Each magnetic moment left spectators on their feet with anticipation for what was still to come. Still, I can not forget when Eminem decided to take a knee. It is a moment we will not forget anytime soon.

An Iconic Moment

I Ain’t Mad At Cha by Tupac Shakur notes echoed in the air as Eminem went down on one knee, despite NFL’s denial. Immediately Colin Kaepernick and his protest during the National Anthem flooded my memory. We know how that ended for Kaepernick, but this is Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is famous for taking advantage of moments like these to send a message to the world. The halftime show was hip-hop from start to finish.

NFL’s Allegations Against Eminem And More

When the performance was over, congratulations started to pour out for Eminem over the statement he made by kneeling. Fans also cheered him, because they believed he took a stand against the NFL, who supposedly told Eminem not to kneel in protest. This allegation against the NFL spread like the cheers that filled the SoFi Stadium during halftime. According to an article on HipHopDX, NFL reps denied they didn’t want Eminem to kneel. The denial was explicit, but that didn’t stop the rumors from spreading.

The Eminem’s rumors continue to spread because of how the NFL treated Colin Kaepernick. It is easy to entertain the idea that the NFL would try and maintain order over these hip-hop moguls as best they can. The allegations are just rumors after the denial from the NFL. In a statement to The New York Post, the reps said, “players have been taking a knee since 2016 without sanctions, so musical talent wouldn’t be held to a different standard.” The NFL might have denied the rumors, but it is hard to trust what they say after a player was blackballed from the sport for kneeling. This is something the NFL still denies.

Hip-hop Center Stage

What will come in the next few days? Will the Eminem’s rumors continue to spread, or will the NFL’s denial be enough to stop them? These answers will continue to be debated, and sides will be picked. As the sides are chosen, I know that the one thing that won’t be discussed is how great the halftime show was. Hip-hop took center stage Sunday night, and it captivated everyone who watched.
