Erykah Badu Sits Down With Summer Walker, Discusses Relationship with Andre 3000

olling Stone, Summer Walker and Erykah Badu sat one on one to discuss topics that interest them both: aliens, music, relationships,and their separate paths to stardom. The chat between the two falls directly after Badu celebrated the 20th anniversary of her second studio album Mama Gun. During the conversation, the neo-soul queen opened up about her relationship with Outkast member André 3000. The two met in the 1990s and instantly kicked it off, which would ultimately lead to their son Seven Sirius Benjamin. Although their romantic relationship didnt last, Badu and Andre remain close friends, something they failed to do first when first meeting. When Summer asked about their current friendship, Badu explained they are as cool as ever.
She revealed that he’d (3000) just left Dallas after paying a visit for her grandmother’s memorial services. “When we became boyfriend and girlfriend in the ’90s, we didn’t become friends first. We were attracted to each other,” she said, “we had stuff in common, but we didn’t learn all of that over the years.” We have a 23-year-old son. Over these years, we’ve just become closer and closer as friends, as humans, as man, as woman.” Now that they’ve separated, she feels their relationship is more versatile.
Badu admitted her affection for him runs deep — but in a friendship way. “He’s one of my best friends on the planet,” she continued. “We laugh all the time, talk about things. It’s brother and sister, it’s grandmother and gr
andson, it’s father and daughter. It’s so many different things depending on what the situation calls for.”
Over the years, Badu has also been romantically linked to Common, The D.O.C and Jay Electronica-who she’s with now. They have a daughter together named Mars and she also has another daughter with The D.O.C named Puma.
Before the conversation wraps, Summer confessed that she has always admired Badu’s stage presence. “Woman to woman, I want to be like that, to have that type of confidence. I be walking into the room real small and then trying to still be the boss that I have to be. And it don’t work. I can’t wait to get to that point.”
