Famed “Rumors” artist, Lizzo is encouraging her massive fanbase to collectively assist in aiding people in Haiti and Afghanistan. On August 14, Haiti suffered a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that left a sizable portion of the country in shambles and nearly 2,000 people dead, while the capital of Afghanistan has been seized by the Taliban, forcing as many as 250,000 people out of their homes since May.
“The internet has brought the world together, for better and for worse,” Lizzo said on Instagram this week. “Right now, there are people in peril. If I can help bring awareness to these issues, it’s the least I can do.”
Lizzo also addressed the enormous wildfires that have taken over parts of Greece and Turkey as of late. These large-scale and tragic events that have recently taken place only add to a world still riddled with second waves of positive COVID-19 results and pandemic limitations. So, any publicity from well-known celebrities of Lizzo’s caliber is sure to gain traction.
Other celebs are following suit
She is not the only celebrity showing her support for the tragic events, however. Prince Harry and Meghan also issued a statement regarding the Haitian and Afghani victims.
“When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realize it or not … As an international community, it is the decisions we make now – to alleviate suffering among those we know and those we may never meet – that will prove our humanity.”
The Royal couple’s non-profit organization, Archwell, is a world-renowned collective that boasts unity, humility and ethical values. Archwell and its partner – World Central Kitchen – are currently backing emergency response in Haiti.
Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka, who is half Haitian, also expressed her support last week via Twitter: “Really hurts to see all the devastation that’s going on in Haiti, and I feel like we can’t catch a break. I’m about to play a tournament this week and I’ll give all the prize money to relief efforts for Haiti.”
Selfless acts should be recognized and respected worldwide. Some of the organizations referred to by Lizzo are Hope for Haiti, World Wide Fund for Nature and Women for Afghan Women. Please support these amazing causes.
