Flatbush Zombies Drop “now, more than ever” EP

Published

on

After experimenting with their sound and group for a couple of years, the Brooklyn rap trio, Flatbush Zombies, are back with a little bit of their old style with some new creativity. Mostly known for their early mixtapes with songs like “Palm Trees” and “Thug Waffle“, the group seemed to struggle when the fame started to come. It is almost like they catered to the popularity that they saw other artists getting and deviated from their roots. The “3001: A Laced Odyssey” and “Vacation In Hell” projects, along with the Beast Coast collaborative album, “Escape From New York”, were good, but different from what got them there in the first place. Their new “now, more than ever” EP brings the best of both worlds with catchy songs that could end up on the radio, as well as tracks with powerful, well thought out verses.

The EP features six songs and, for the most part, is targeted at the current state of racial tension in America. With emotional lyrics at some points, and informative intros and outros at others, protesters and activists around the country will definitely be blasting this.

Erick The Architect, produced it, like their previous projects, but something is different about this one. The beats that he makes can usually be attributed to the ‘New York’ sound that they were raised on, and now he has adapted that sound into something unique with well-recorded vocal samples and new rhythms. The best part of listening to it, however, is realizing that the verse-killing, voice-crackling Meechy Darko we all know and love is back. In their early work, Meech dominates most of the songs with his extended, hard-hitting verses like his opening part on “MRAZ“, after they got big, he seemed to take more of a backseat role in the group. Now, in their new project, he has reminded us that he is still the lyrical juggernaut that we remember by murdering his parts on “dirty elevator music” and “when i’m gone“.
