It’s safe to say that the National Basketball Association (NBA) players have been through a lot. Teams are playing basketball during a national pandemic, living in a state with one of the highest COVID cases in the country, and quarantining in a bubble where they are unable to see their families and loved ones due to health and safety restrictions.
The Sunday shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin caught the attention of NBA players, and caused Milwaukee to make the choice not take the courts against Orlando, putting a pause on playoffs.
The NBA has already taken a stance against injustice with their NBA Restart campaign. The NBA’s campaign has helped to bring awareness to viewers–Black Lives Matter is painted on the courts, the players are wearing jerseys that supporting positive change, and many players and coaches have spoken up about important topics surrounding police brutality and racial injustice.
All NBA players met on Thursday, and decided to resume the playoff season. While the schedule is not known at this time, players have agreed to continue, and are looking forward to finishing up the first spectator-less season of basketball.
