CyHi’s “EGOT the EP” combines grit, poise, and sentiment perfectly. Equipped with effortless flows, clever punchlines, and hard-hitting bars, “EGOT the EP” pushes society to live in its truth. Moreso, the artist moves listeners through his ability to capture the essence of grief, infatuation, and confidence.

Like he raps in “Help Me God,” “look at threats as hyperboles/’Cause when you a God, you can’t even take it personally.”

“EGOT the EP” Review:

The first song, “Extra,” gives CyHi room to lyrically (and physically) flex. Backed up by an experimental hip-hop beat, the rap veteran indulges in beautiful women, foreign cars, and his abundance of cash, which he compares to “Nutty Professor.” The rapper details his hustle and other former dealings/life events elsewhere.

“Help Me God”

“Help Me God” brings awareness to the corruption happening in today’s world. The gospel-inspired boom-bap beat shows CyHi is not only putting opps in their rightful place. He also shakes the planet around with impactful lyrics about not staying true to our roots. Furthermore, he brings up society’s weight on the necessity of having a college degree. This pretense makes everyone believe that this will give you better job opportunities.

In one line, he even spits,

“Ha, these verses took me further than most of the university/And you movin’ like your Cadillac converter weak/Can’t believe everything you read, it could be Burgundy/How we go to HBCU’s and let ’em turn us Greek?/What if a nigga strikes me? How can I turn a cheek?”

To summarize the third track, think of it as an opportunity to shoot your shot. Over a luxurious-esque trap beat, CyHi and Big Banks speak about how “it’s a sight to see when we slide together.” Although he isn’t looking to settle down, he’d still like to give her some TLC and show her the finer things in life.

He spits,

“I’m not the fella that’s trying to settle down/I’m more about my endeavors/Scarlet lettеr, you not Coretta/Told her I rather bе a cappella/So it’s just me and my mozzarella/If it’s not Buscetta, my vibe Vanilla.”

“Tears”

Then there’s the crowd’s favorite, “Tears (feat. Jacquees).” In “Tears,” CyHi reflects on the unfortunate deaths of his loved ones, his come-up, and details the street life.

“Cause we really come from nothin’/If the streets ever paid your bail, we hold a common bond/Come to gun at twelve, I wish they had never sold us one/We handle beef well, but sometimes I just felt it was overdone,” he raps.

Somewhere in the song, he also says

“What’s even stranger, you was alive at your funeral/They cried, lookin’ down at the body, while they were viewing you/A spirit, lookin’ back at the flesh, like it was two of you/They came to the service, on a Friday afternoon for you.”
